As seen on TV?

Television

There's a web site that claims to specialize in "unique merchandise found in infomercials on television." One of the items that they stock is the AT&T Telephone Security Device Model 3600, or TSD 3600 for short. This is the notorious "Clipper phone" that was the result of the US government's ill-fated attempt in the pre-dot-com era to only allow only encryption that gave the government the ability to decrypt any encrypted traffic. I don't recall ever seeing these advertised on TV, but I almost wish I had $99.95 to blow on a pair of them.

I've heard rumors that AT&T was skeptical of the demand for these devices and only agreed to make them if the government agreed to buy any devices that didn't sell right away. If that's the case, there may be several pallets of TSD 3600s in storage somewhere. Perhaps right next to the Ark of the Covenant.
